White Pass Outfitters (miller party)
« on: November 14, 2016, 08:13:29 AM »
I was told to let this go, but after reading all the negative comments just couldnt do it. Not going to get into he said she said just want to get my  :two cents: out there.
First thing; It was a hour ride up hill by horseback not 2 tenths of a mile.
Second thing; It is $1000 per man for my supplied camps which consists of wall tent, wood stove, propane heater, cook stove,1 30 & 1 20 lbs propane tanks, 8 small propane bottles, two lanterns, two tables, chairs with backs and arm rests, cots with pads, all dutch oven cooking supply's, all cookware and utensils, coffee pot,two water jugs, two wash basins, cleaning supply's ,saw,ax,shovel.
Third thing; I never put a camp where I haven't gotten a bull or haven't seen bulls within a few days of hunters arrival.
Fourth thing;I moved the camp from original drainage do to two diy camps moved into the same drainage.
Fifth thing; after talking with the group leader,he told me his sons where getting discouraged with elk hunting do to never getting one. So I had been seeing these two smaller bulls hanging out with some cows for a couple weeks not far from there camp. I thought it was going to be a slam dunk for at least two out of the three hunters.
Six thing; As far as communications go, the group leader called me  a number of times asking the same questions over and over again, even after I told him all the information is on my website. And during there hunt he also called or texted me every day. I talked to him more than my wife that week.
Seventh thing; I do take full responsibility for there hunt not going well do to the ski resorts testing of the chair lifts, I should have checked with them to see when they were going to do there testing. That and only that is the reason I am giving them another hunt. And as far as the temp. wrangler telling them to hunt either side he said that was for deer not elk.( He is no longer working for wpo)
I spend weeks locating bulls for our hunters and setting up deluxe camps to give them a good hunt.  I do want to say Thanks to all the people with the positive comments. Good luck to all of you on your next hunting adventure. WPO

Tagging along to see where this goes.  Hopefully it just fades away and doesn't blow up.

No kidding, that would suck.

Understand you had to say something.   My thinking, this has no winners on either side but you have more to risk.  I believe you stepped up to the plate and now have shared your side of the story.  There are always perceptions and a realities. The challenge is each of our preceptions is our individual reality right or wrong.

Just for reference here is the original thread that ended with a satisfied customer.

I agree, dont know if any of you ever hunted under power lines, I have and done pretty darn good. My point being its feed and lots of it. You've got food plots with wilderness and National Forest surrounding you. Just my opinion but not a bad place to start looking for Elk. A horse does 3.5 miles an hour up hill. Just to through that out there.

As a business owner I can say that the test of a good businessman is when things go poorly. It sounded like the Miller party was satisfied with how WPO was making it right regaurdless of the reason.

To me it appears that many things went wrong some of which were within WPO control and some were not.

The Miller party said they were satisfied with the remedy, and I look forward to hearing how next year goes. I for one will keep track of this because when a business owner makes things right it should be noted.

Here's a picture of there camp a week later. I dont want anyone thinking in any way that I'm ranking on the Millers. Thats not why I wrote this,  I wrote this I guess to defend my self a little bit I took a beaten on this one. And I take pride in my hunting camps. And I am looking forward to  taking the Millers into hunting camp next year. This hunt backfired on me so I plan on giving the Miller family one hell of a hunt next year.

I would've let it go, your actions with the Miller party behind the scenes spoke for you but now... your version is shedding light on an aspect that I find unsatisfactory and you're doing more harm then good.

I guess I don't get it. You packed stringed guys in up behind a ski resort, you think the greenery in cleared ski slopes could make for a good "wilderness elk hunting experience", and you complain about your tent collapsing under snow load cause you didn't go get it for a week after your hunters told you they left.

And now your "looking forward to taking the Millers into hunting camp"? Now!!!
